A sawn-off shotgun was found by officers whilst searching a flat. Nottinghamshire Police carried out a search on a one-bedroom property belonging to Andrew James on Burford Road, Forest Fields on May 7, 2023.
The search was carried out after James was arrested for unrelated matters. During the search a large duffle bag was found locked with a padlock in the bedroom area. After locating a set of keys, officers were able to open the bag where they discovered the firearm inside. for sentencing on Monday, June 19.
He had previously pleaded guilty to possessing a shotgun when prohibited for life and possessing a shortened shotgun. Detective Constable Caitlin Carnell, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Thankfully firearms offences are extremely rare in Nottinghamshire and that’s because we are very proactive about taking guns off people before they can be used to cause harm.
“In this instance, the vigilance of the officers who searched James’ flat resulted in a dangerous weapon being seized, taken off the streets and destroyed.”
