A bus owner has pulled his fleet off the school run for the first time in 23 years in the interests of child safety due to what he thought was treacherous road conditions in his area.

"One of the drivers rang me and I said, 'nah, I don't think it is worth it' so I WhatsApped all the parents to say that we would not be running this morning but we would be operating an afternoon service home if parents wanted to drop the children off themselves. Not one parent has complained.

"There are different conditions in different areas out there so each provider made their own call depending on location. I'm sure other roads were fine this morning. Rory says that he will be watching the weather intently later as tomorrow's forecast seems to be predicting even icier temperatures in his locality.
