Existing staff will be shifted around to provide instruction to students as the district tries to rebuild its pool of substitutes.
A South Jersey school district will shift its secondary schools to an early dismissal schedule for the next month to deal with staffing shortages.
A shortage of available substitute teachers has affected daily instructional goals, Millville Superintendent Tony Trongone said. The early dismissal will allow the district to address the shortage “by utilizing our current employees so that we are delivering consistent instruction.” “With our secondary schools, it just became an issue and so we needed to take this measure until it improves and build up our sub pool,” Trongone said. “You can’t talk out of both sides of your mouth during a pandemic. You can’t say, ‘I need you to come in,’ and then on the other hand, say ‘Please don’t come in if you’re not feeling well.’ We do have to directly instruct our students and not have them sitting in a cafeteria or an auditorium.
