Do you eat meat? Recently, a lot of people have either become vegan, vegetarian or have cut down on their meat intake from day to day.

In recent years it has become more of a lifestyle choice rather than a dietary requirement .The study, which was conducted at the University of Technology and Monash University, found that those in lower socio-economic backgrounds eat more meat in Europe than those with higher incomes.

Authors of the study, Dr Eugene Chan and Dr Natalina Zlatevska, said that those who expressed economic “status anxiety” were more likely to choose meat over vegan or vegetarian options.“There is a symbolic association between eating meat and strength, power and masculinity “It is traditionally a high-status food, brought out for guests or as the centrepiece of festive occasions, so we wanted to better understand this link to status.”“If you go back far enough in time people who ate meat were more powerful than those who could not afford meat, and it became endowed with social status.
