Scotland has broken Portugal's winning streak at the World Golf Awards
Widely known as the home of golf, the country was named as this year's World's Best Golf Destination. The occasion marks the first time Scotland took home the prize in the award's nine-year history. READ MORE — Gaelic officially classed as 'endangered' language according to new report The country beat out fellow nominees Argentina, Australia, Canada, Dubai, Jamaica, Morocco, and Vietnam.
The ceremony, which celebrated and rewarded "excellence in golf tourism, world-class courses, and golf destinations", was held at Rixos Premium Saadiyat Island in Abu Dhabi on November 15. Past winners have included Vietnam, Australia, and five-time champion Portugal.Prestwick Golf Club was crowned Scotland's Best Golf Course 2022, beating out fellow nominees such as Loch Lomond Golf Club, Royal Aberdeen Golf Club, and Trump International Golf Links.
Meanwhile, Trump Turnberry was awarded Scotland's Best Golf Hotel 2022. It triumphed over other venues like Fairmont St Andrews, Macdonald Marine Hotel & Spa, and The Gleneagles Hotel.Dermot Synnott, Director of global partnerships for the World Golf Awards said: "Scottish golf tourism is thriving, and Scotland is a bucket list destination for most golfers around the world.
