The green alternative to a gas boiler, which takes heat from outside and pumps it into homes, is a crucial element of Holyrood net zero plans.
Scotland is on track for a record bumper year for installing eco-friendly heat pumps in homes with more than 5000 fitted already in 2024.
Rural and island areas have seen the fastest take-up of heat pumps - with one in five homes in the Western Isles now boasting the technology, while it’s 15 per cent in Orkney and 9 per cent in Argyll and Bute. According to figures released by the Microgeneration Certification Scheme , more than 5000 MCS-certified heat pumps have been installed in Scotland so far in 2024.
"These results from MCS show that with the right grant support and regulation, people can have the certainty they need to make the switch to cleaner, greener forms of heating." Join the Daily Record's WhatsApp community here and get the latest news sent straight to your messages.
