Traquair House was the most prominent Jacobite house in Southern Scotland, and has been visited by a number of Kings and Queens.

Current owner Catherine Maxwell-Stuart, 58, is the 21st Lady of Traquair. Traquair House first opened its doors to the public around her birth. The maze was originally planted with 1,500 Leylandi Cyprus trees in 1981. However, after damage sustained during a harsh winter in 1983, it was decided it would be replanted with hardier beech trees that have added colour to the maze.

"The last addition was in 1694 so it is unchanged since the 1700s. It has 900 years of Scottish history inside.
