Police have launched an investigation after a man was found seriously injured in a seaside town. .

He was rushed to Crosshouse Hospital, near Kilmarnock, for treatment. And officers are now appealing to the public for help in tracking down the thug responsible. A post on the Ayrshire Police Division Facebook page read: "We are appealing for witnesses after a man was seriously assaulted in Saltcoats overnight.

"The incident happened around 1am today in the Green Street area, near to the junction with Vernon Street. The 25-year-old sustained facial injuries and attended Crosshouse Hospital for treatment. "We are asking drivers in the area at the time to please check their dash cams for any footage that could assist enquiries.
