Scots are facing massive price rises for summer barbecues over soaring food costs for staples
The cost of a basket of favourites including sausages and hamburgers has risen by 13 per cent compared to twelve months ago.
“CAB advisers see far too many horrific examples of people having to choose between heating and eating, and warmer weather over the summer doesn’t mean that spending choices become easier. The average price of a packet of six bread rolls has risen from 99p in May last year to £1.06 - a 7pc rise. The price of beef steak has increased by 9pc from £16.58 to £18.10.The average price of the bangers has risen from £5.54 to £6.63.At its peak, the inflation rate for food and drink in the UK was 18.3 percent in May.“The ongoing hike in prices means too many families are struggling to buy the very basics, never mind enjoy the simple pleasure of a summer barbecue.
Scottish politics SNP MP Patricia Gibson said: “In what is a sad reflection of how the Tories’ Brexit and cost of living crisis has seeped through to affect every aspect of life, rising grocery inflation is set to put a dampener even on summer barbecues.
