The situation has left Thomas totally reliant on family members to help him get in and out the house in an undignified and challenging way.
A fed-up Brucehill amputee says West Dunbartonshire Council has left him trapped in his own home after refusing to install a ramp.
“I need to get out of the house. I feel like a goldfish stuck in the bowl looking out the windows. When my wife, daughter or grandson come down they’ll help me. But when there’s nobody here I’m stuck. “On the return it would be the same. The chair would go into the house facing out the way, and I’d bum my way up the stairs into the chair.
“The occupational therapist has put in a report. I have two letters from two separate doctors, the social work and others - all supporting the case that I should be out of the house as soon as possible. And if not, the house should be adapted so I can get in and out myself. “About three months ago we were offered a house in Bowling. It had a full, permanent ramp. It had adapted worktops in the kitchen for a wheelchair user.
“I can’t understand why it didn’t make sense for us to move 100 yards across the road and for the guy to move into our old house.”
