Nurses have spoken out on the staffing crisis in all the country's hospitals after none of the newly qualified paediatric nurses from Glasgow’s Caledonian University were given jobs within NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde.

Less than half of all graduating nurses in Glasgow have found jobs within the city as young newly qualified nurses claim the crisis is Scotland-wide.

Previously speaking to Glasgow Live, a third year adult nursing student from GCU, slammed the recruitment process, saying, "the wards are understaffed, so when we are on placement we really do get stuck in and fill in the gaps". "This is the last straw, knowing there are newly qualified nurses and they can’t get jobs while the existing staff are struggling. This is the end of our NHS and this is our one last fight before it is gone.

"There are single parents who rely on family for babysitting. They didn’t train to move away to England."Brenda said: “And they only got their second choice because a lot of departments have had massive budget cuts. “Even basic care isn’t getting done properly. If you are short staffed and have a lot of emergencies on your ward people are not getting basic care which can lead to bed sores and other illnesses.Labour’s health spokeswoman Jackie Baillie said: “The SNP government’s complete failure to develop an accurate workforce plan for nursing in Scotland has pushed our NHS to the brink.“The fact of the matter is that the responsibility for this crisis rests squarely with the SNP.
