People across Scotland’s biggest city have lost almost £50,000 to doorstep scammers in the last six months, Trading Standards Scotland have warned.
A callous scammer persuaded a Scots pensioner to folk out a whopping £6,800 to power wash his driveway in a fraudulent scam that was uncovered by bank staff.
The police were contacted and the transaction was refused. It's just one of many cases where consumer watchdogs revealed that Glasgow residents lost almost £50,000 to rogue traders in the last six months. Between October 2023 and March 2024, six people across Glasgow sought help after losing a combined total of £45,750 to cold callers for incomplete or unsatisfactory roofing, gardening and driveway work. The average amount lost was £7,625.
The watchdog have advised when seeking repairs they should check at least three different review sites and obtain more than one quote for a piece of work.
