Freedom of Information Requests by Scottish Labour have revealed that the current maintenance backlog for surgeries across the country is £78.5m.
Scottish GP surgeries are facing a maintenance backlog of more than £75 million, according to figures obtained by Scottish Labour.
“The sorry state of these crumbling buildings is a symbol of the damage the SNP has inflicted on General Practice. This was followed by NHS Ayrshire and Arran on £13.2m. This was an increase from £9.9m in 2021/22 and £8.9m in 2020/21. The increase between 2020/21 and 2022/23 was 47.6 per cent. NHS Forth Valley also saw a high increase, with the backlog going up by 54.8 per cent. It went up from £4.2m in 2020/21 to £6.5m in 2022/23.
"The state of the primary care estate was thrown into sharp relief by the pandemic, where many surgeries were simply inadequate. Like most things related to GPs in Scotland, this requires substantial investment from the Government alongside a commitment to solve legal issues which may hold up investment in GP partner practices.
