'There's not many heroin dealers around now, it's just coke and weed dealers'

Conor HeneghanA ‘drug runner’ for one of the gangs involved in an escalating gang feud in Drogheda has described those involved as “scumbags, to the highest degree” and says that he is living in fear of his life and the lives of his family.

The drug runner claimed that the feud in Drogheda started when a younger gang moved in on the turf of an existing gang and that it has since developed into a territorial feud. He said that cocaine and cannabis are the drugs that the gangs concern themselves with, saying: “There's not many heroin dealers around now, it's just coke and weed dealers now.”

The man claimed to have witnessed “an awful lot of bad beatings” – even mentioning “knives up their ass” at one point in the interview – and said that the gangs involved have no regard for who gets hurt. “Scumbags, to the highest degree - they're all junked up, they're all on steroids... they're all up in the head, they're manic in the head, they're very dangerous people,” he said. The drug runner claimed that there are a lot of guns in Drogheda, that he would like to see Gardaí in possession of guns and that there hasn’t been sufficient Garda resources to deal with the problem up until now.

“There was never enough resources with Gardaí, never... never enough guards in the town to handle what's going on,” he said.
