The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) has only recovered €109,000 of an estimated €3.9 million overpayment made to car dealerships for electric vehicle demonstration models. The overpayment occurred because dealerships failed to accurately declare their linked status, allowing them to exceed the grant limit. The SEAI is now working to recover the remaining funds while dealing with dealer objections to the determination of their linked status.

The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland ( SEAI) has recovered only €109,000 of an estimated €3.9 million overpayment made to car dealerships under the Government's electric vehicle (EV) demonstration model grant scheme.

The overpayment occurred because dealerships failed to accurately declare their linked status, allowing them to receive grants exceeding the €200,000 (later €300,000) limit per commercial undertaking. The SEAI is now seeking to recover the remaining funds, but the process is complicated by dealers contesting the determination of their linked status.
