The former Democratic president was hospitalized in California on Tuesday with sepsis.
His doctors said Clinton will be given intravenous antibiotics until Friday, when he will likely be switched to oral antibiotics.
The former president has a history of health issues. He underwent quadruple bypass surgery in 2004 when he was 58 after he complained of chest pains and shortness of breath for several months.
Clinton was also hospitalized in 2010 for routine stent surgery. In the procedure, doctors implanted two small metal mesh stents into a coronary artery to aid blood flow.
