The little-known location is tucked away but has a wonderful vantage point

St Hilary's Gardens in Wallasey Village, Wirral, is a little-known escape from suburban life that is nestled by the historic church of the same name. Sat between Breck Road and Claremont Road, you can access the space via St Hilary's Drive as it looks out over Wallasey.

But this isn't the only spot the Liverpool City Region boasts where you can spend a few hours soaking up the sunshine. Here is a list of some of our favourites:It may sound daft, but as regular visitors to Caldies we can say we have hardly ever seen people using the official picnic area where there are tables and benches. Most people seem to be drawn to the big field opposite the mansion house, next to the playground.

Click here to find out more about the park.Keep away from the main National Trust entrance and the infamous ‘Live squirrels, dead slow’ road sign on Victoria Road, and instead take the road running along the car park side of Freshfield Station.

It can be a bit windy so take a jumper or jacket and you'll need shoes with grip. A bonus is seeing the planes fly low overhead as they prepare to land at Liverpool John Lennon Airport. Hale Head Lighthouse, Church Road, Hale Village.This public park was once the grounds of Allerton Hall, a Grade II-listed mansion completed by Liverpool abolitionist William Roscoe. The hall is now a pub. Look out for the WWII pillbox, built to protect the city from potential German invaders.
