Capital markets activity bounced back slightly during the first six months of 2022 but remained significantly lower than the first half of 2021.Lawyers in Texas led 94 securities offerings between Jan. 1 and June 30, with a combined value of $54.9 billion, according to the Texas Lawbook, a news organization that follows the state’s legal industry.
“The equity markets have had their share of turbulence this year, which kept IPO activity subdued in comparison to previous years,” said Carina Antweil, a partner at the Houston law firm Baker Botts. “Unless current headwinds subside, and that doesn’t seem likely in the near term due to all of the macroeconomic factors at play, equities will remain under pressure.”
Stocks fell again Friday to cap their worst week since June. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 4 percent over the week to end at 30,822. The broader S&P 500 lost nearly 5 percent on the week, and the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite was down 5.5 percent.
