'Ireland has not generated any intelligence since the Troubles'
Security expert Tom Clonan has rejected Justice Minister Helen McEntee’s claims Ireland is not a soft touch for drug traffickers.
The former army man and Senator told us: "Ireland is Europe’s weakest link when it comes to defence, intelligence and security. "The UN scored Ireland low in terms of our ability to deal with human trafficking, and drug trafficking."Ireland has not generated any intelligence since the Troubles. "We have become net recipients of intelligence through our international partners and that’s a very vulnerable position for any state. The guards are supposed to do intelligence... but also supposed to do road policing, immigration, community policing. He added: "The drug trade is extremely lucrative."Most of it gets through, because there is cocaine in every club in the country.
