Security expert says if alleged ISIS sympathiser Lisa Smith is jailed it should be on Irish soil
A Security expert has said if alleged ISIS sympathiser Lisa Smith is to do time behind bars it should be on Irish soil.He added: “If Lisa does serve any prison time, it should definitely be in Ireland.”Speaking to Today FM about the 37-year-old from Dundalk, Co Louth, yesterday, he said: “The abilities of the State to handle such cases are not there.“We need to know when Irish citizens are getting involved in nefarious activity.
His comments came as Justice Minister Charlie Flanagan said the State will make “every effort” to return the former Defences Forces soldier to Ireland. He added: “We don’t know all the facts but we’re talking to international colleagues to ensure we can ascertain the facts, and if there is a child involved because it is believed she has a two-year-old son.”Friends rallied to support her over the weekend and denied she has any involvement with ISIS.
