A Colorado deputy used his vehicle to intervene against a wrong-way driver Monday on a highway.
The impact did not leave any parties with major injuries. The 26-year-old Adams County Sheriff's deputy put his car between the vehicle and other drivers, preventing a worse accident.The 83-year-old driver was going westbound in the eastbound lane. About a dozen cars on Interstate 70 at about mile marker 328 were already pulled over, bracing for disaster before the deputy successfully stopped the elderly driver.
The Facebook account of the Adams County Sheriff's Office shared photographed results of the Monday crash in what it called a"Thankful Tuesday" post. The Colorado State Patrol notified the sheriff's office of the wrong-way driver at 11 p.m. Monday. Deputies from the CSP and Arapahoe County had already attempted to stop the driver earlier, but the car only came to a stop after hitting the deputy's vehicle.
"The impact pushed both vehicles over 140 ft and into the front of a stopped semi-truck," the Sheriff's Office said."We are thankful that the only casualties were the vehicles involved. There is no doubt that without the deputy’s quick action and bravery several vehicles would have been struck at high speeds and lives would have been lost."The CSP is leading the investigation into the elderly driver and reportedly has no suspicions of drug or alcohol use. By 3 a.m.
