The first prosecution ended in a mistrial, which the judge in the original case declared after jurors were unable to reach a unanimous verdict. Several jurors later told reporters they believed the government’s evidence was not convincing.Menendez is not up for re-election until 2024. He has served in the Senate since 2006 and previously served in the House.
