Although he hasn’t yet won his party’s nomination, Rep. Tim Ryan, the frontrunner to win the Democratic nomination for an Ohio U.S. Senate seat, is looking past the primary as he pledges to help other state Democrats to win their races in November.
The money could be spent on general campaign infrastructure that could help the entire Democratic slate, including field staff and office space. Ryan so far has raised $7.4 million for his overall campaign.to directly contribute to the campaigns of Jeff Crossman, Taylor Sappington, Chelsea Clark and Scott Schertzer, the party’s unopposed nominees for attorney general, state auditor, secretary of state and state treasurer, respectively.
Ryan says he will raise the money sometime before the Nov. 8 election, transferring it to the joint fundraising committee with the state party in installments. Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brownthrough a similar mechanism during his successful re-election campaign in 2018, in addition to directly transferring $300,000 to the Ohio Democratic Party.
“Tim launched his campaign with a pledge to build the strongest possible grassroots team, and that begins with an aggressive organizing operation that can reach voters in every corner of Ohio,” Levy said in a statement. “This investment is a critical step toward building a strong Democratic Party and a robust coordinated campaign that’s ready to not only flip Ohio’s open Senate seat, but also carry pro-worker candidates up and down the ballot to a win in November.
