Vice President Kamala Harris confirmed the vote of 53 to 47, announcing the decision in the Senate chambers.
Alaska’s Republican Senators were split on the decision, with Lisa Murkowski joining two other Republicans voting in favor, and Dan Sullivan voting against.prior to her vote, Murkowski explained her decision to confirm, saying it was based on Jackson’s qualifications.Sullivan, meanwhile, congratulated Jackson for her confirmation while questioning what he calls her history of attempted overreach as a judge.
Justice Stephen Breyer is scheduled to retire from the bench this summer. At that time, Jackson will begin her tenure.
