A man who has admitted 119 charges of child sex abuse had sentencing adjourned pending the preparation of a victim impact statement. The accused, in his 40s, who cannot be named for legal reasons, signed guilty pleas to the offences at Athlone District Court in February.
The case resumed at this week's sessions of Mullingar Circuit Court. He nodded and affirmed the guilty plea to all the charges when he appeared before Judge Keenan Johnson, who noted that an adjournment was required. The case resumes in July.The man faces 39 counts of sexual exploitation of a child and 38 for sexual assault of a male contrary to section 2 of the Criminal Law Act 1990. He has also admitted 38 charges of obtaining a child for sexual exploitation and four counts of inviting, inducing, counselling or inciting a child for the purposes of sexual touching. The accused, who resides in the UK, remains on bail and did not address the court. He must notify gardaí of any change of address, remain contactable on his mobile phone and have no contact, directly, indirectly or via third parties with the injured party, their immediate family or any witnesses.The prosecution evidence in the case has yet to be outlined.
