Wilfried Gnonto recently penned a new long-term Leeds United contract
Few would argue that Wilfried Gnonto is one of the best attacking players outside of the Premier League. The talented wide man underlined his quality in the second half of last season, hitting eight goals as Leeds United narrowly missed out on automatic promotion.
The Whites are in a strong position regarding Gnonto's long term future, having tied him down to a new contract the morning after transfer deadline day. It is understood no exit clause was inserted in Gnonto's latest deal. Yet Gnonto faced heavy criticism for being spotted on his phone on the bench replying to a text from United, who were worried he had suffered a potential injury, midway through the match. Team coordinator Maurizio Viscidi jumped to Gnonto's defence. Speaking to Raisport, quoted by Tutto Mercato Web, Viscidi said: “Willy was substituted at half-time because we were ahead and he was cautioned, and he was too important for Norway.
