Detectives investigating the shooting of Detective Chief Inspector John Caldwell have charged seven men in connection with the incident. Det Ch Insp Caldwell was shot while putting football into his car at a sports facility in Omagh on February 22.
Police Service of Northern Ireland's major investigations team has tonight confirmed two men aged 28 and five men - aged 33, 38, 45, 47 and 72 - have been charged with attempted murder. Two of the men, one aged 38 and the other 45, have also been charged with membership of a proscribed organisation. PSNI officers say the organisations is the IRA.
Three of the men - aged 28, 33, and 47 - have also been charged with preparation of terrorist acts. All seven men are expected to appear before Dungannon Magistrates Court via video link on Monday 29th May.
