A Case Report in Acta Neuropathologica Communications presents a case of a former professional Dutch soccer player with young-onset dementia and pathology-confirmed CTE, thus increasing awareness about the correlation between soccer and neurodegeneration.
The patient has provided written consent to use his clinical data and biomaterial for future research purposes, as part of the Amsterdam Dementia Cohort, which was approved by the Medical Ethics Committee of the VU medical center under the reference number 2016/061. Before death, the patient’s next of kin gave written informed consent for brain donation to the NEwTON cohort of the Netherlands Brain Bank , according to the ethical guidelines of brain banking.
