Ireland is experiencing a significant weather event with 'significant accumulations' of snow overnight, leading to extended orange warnings for several counties. Met Éireann has issued warnings for snow, ice, and rain, impacting travel, power, and water supplies. 28,000 customers were left without power, and ESB crews are working to restore services.

"Significant accumulations" of snow have fallen in some parts of the country overnight, with Met Éireann extending the orange snow and ice weather warning into this evening.

A Status Orange snow and ice warning is in place for Carlow, Kilkenny, Laois, Offaly, Wicklow, Clare, Limerick and Tipperary until 5pm today. Meanwhile, a Status Yellow low temperature and ice warning for the whole country from 5pm today until 12 noon on Thursday. Uisce Éireann also reported disruption within the network, associated mainly with the power outages. Both bodies are working together to restore supplies.

"Even where roads have been salted people should slow down, drive with caution and allow extra time for their journey. Drivers travelling longer journeys should make themselves aware of conditions right along their route, as we are seeing a wide range of weather conditions across different parts of the country.
