The rockstar said his Irish parents would be 'chuffed' to hear he wanted to fly the flag for Ireland at this year's Eurovision Song Contest

Eurosong hopeful John Lydon broke down in tears as he spoke of his pride at potentially representing Ireland at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest.

The band’s song, Hawaii, is a musical love letter to his wife Nora, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and John hopes that it raises more awareness of the illness. “It's not the only place of significance to her but that was the one I picked out. It's very, very tear-jerking for me to even talk about it. I don't know what I'm going to go through doing this today. I'm shaking now... it means the world to me.

He said: “I think it would be so exciting and we really want to do it and we’re very passionate about it. We’re big Eurovision fans as well. I think it would be quite fun as well. No band has done this for Ireland in 40 years.”
