She accused Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng of failing to seize on the opportunity of tackling the cost of living crisis in hisMs Reeves said: “The message from financial markets was clear on Friday, and this morning the message is even more stark – sterling is down, that means higher prices.”
She said the impact of the Chancellor’s new policies will mean prices will go up, the cost of borrowing will go up and the cost of borrowing for families will go up too. The Shadow Chancellor accused the Liz Truss’s Government of failing to invest in public services such as the NHS and schools, but instead returning to “a trickle down idea that has been tried has been tested and has failed”.
But she said Labour will fight is “every step of the way”, she vows, and ensure “hard work met with fair reward”.
