Visitors at a quaint Nottingham park say the space has become a 'sanctuary' after bouncing back from its crime-ridden past. Iremongers Pond, situated next to the Wilford Toll Bridge, has been plagued with problems with drug users and litter in the past.

Since then, locals say Iremongers Pond has made a near-full recovery. Darren Bourne, a 55-year-old education manager from the Meadows, recalled the park being a "shady" area. "I've never seen any trouble recently, all I see is people fishing," he said."Maybe it's just the time of day that I come. I just potter down and listen to stuff so I don't hang around. It used to be a pretty shady area but it seems fine now.

"It used to be every day years ago but it's not a problem anymore. It's a lot better than it was. There was so much rubbish thrown in the vegetation and shrubbery. It's generally a very safe place to come now. You wouldn't see many families before but now a lot come with their babies. Some have only just found the place."

"I like to come here after work, almost every day. It's a bit of a sanctuary away from work, stresses and life really. I don't think people realise how nice it is here, no-one seems to appreciate nature anymore. I've lived in the Meadows all my life so I used to come here as a kid to fish with my dad. I come a lot more often since it's improved."
