The shameful headbutt and biting attacks on Lancashire Police that officers say are 'part of the job'

Four police officers a day are head-butted, bitten or otherwise assaulted in Lancashire, the county’s chief constable has revealed.

But he outlined where the job of his officers was getting harder in terms of attacks on them and the growing number of calls for them to deal with social care and mental health issues. He told the Police and Crime Panel for Lancashire in Blackburn Town Hall: ”I have an opportunity where others didn’t in respect of the uplift in officers.“I have got enough officers to deal with crime and anti-social behaviour. I speak to everyone one of my officers who is assaulted.

“Eighty per cent of them generally are social care and mental health issues so only 20 per cent of the calls we are dealing with are crime-related. On occasion 10 of my officers may be sat with five individuals because they can’t get a bed for mental health issues.
