The pitch had passed TWO inspections - at 11.15am and 4pm - despite heavy rainfall throughout Sunday.
Shamrock Rovers' League of Ireland clash with Cork City has been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, just 40 minutes before the scheduled 6pm kick-off.
A fresh downpour shortly after the latter inspection led to more surface water on the playing surface, while the area in front of the dugouts was flooded. As he got word, he turned around to his coaching staff and drew his hand across his throat, to signal that the game was off. Moments later, an announcement was read out over the PA system, informing the fans who had already arrived that there would be no action.
