Shane Byrne was more emotional that he expected to be after his incredible tribute to Munster and Ireland rugby legend Anthony Foley on Dancing with the Stars. He and his pro partner Karen Byrne dedicated their Viennese Waltz to the Queen classic We Are the Champions to the late sports star.
Anthony's wife Olive gave the couple her blessing to perform the routine and she and her sons were in the audience on Sunday night.Shane told RSVP Live: "I am a bit more emotional than I expected I have to say but I am delighted. "Listen, from a dance point of view, we got great comments from the judges and a high score Karen didn’t have anything to give out to me about during the dance so that is always a bonus." The Leinster man added: “You want to do your best to stay in the competition, but this is a different reason. "I wanted to get it right for his family, in front of his family. There was no ease in the pressure at all."He said: "Anything to do with Anthony, I always ask permission and she was delighted. She had been watching the show, so she was following as it was and then when I rang her, she was thrilled. "It is something that she finds very, very comforting, she says that people are still remembering him. "There was a huge support for it so I am happy that they are happy. I talked to them afterwards and that was very important." It was also a big weekend for the Ireland rugby team after their Six Nations win over France in the Aviva Stadium and now the attention is turning to whether Ireland could win the Grand Slam. Shane: said "It is in Ireland’s hands. It won’t be a better side that beats them because I don’t think there is that. It is all about how Ireland will perform on the day. "If Ireland keep performing the way they have in the last two games, why not talk about the Grand Slam? Wouldn’t that be fantastic?"READ MORE
