Rather than collapsing, the one thing I would say about Clare is that they became very predictable, something that I’d imagine John Kiely and Paul Kinnerk read very quickly.

There's been a struggle between perception and reality this week - and I’d like to strike a blow for the latter.

But that’s not to say that Limerick were playing really poorly either. They created lots of chances but their finishing was off. The fact that they had plenty of possession and were getting shots off suggests that they were doing a lot right. There are claims once again that they are going back to the same old faces up front. Pat Ryan has said that they didn’t get enough ball into their full-forward line.

We all know how the definition of insanity is doing the same things over and over while expecting different results.I don’t know whether this was all part of an elaborate ploy but, in the League, Waterford played in the same fashion as they had last year. Previously, they didn’t have players close to goal, shot from distance and went with a sweeper. It was totally different last Sunday. They went long on puckouts and hunted the breaks. Jamie Barron’s goal, for example, couldn’t have happened with their previous system of play.

Davy will file into the Gaelic Grounds on Sunday with the pressure off, for now, knowing that another big win at Walsh Park the following weekend will set his team up very, very nicely. The scheduling of the games last weekend has been questioned, and rightly so.
