The day will come where they won’t be able to get three or more goals to pull themselves out of trouble.

Over the past week, the Tailteann Cup has received more coverage than the hurling quarter-finals amid bickering over scheduling.

Pat Ryan was thick after the match and you couldn’t blame him. They leaked 3-11 from play and it could easily have been 6-11, far from ideal at this stage of the season but it gave Ryan a stick to beat his charges with all week. Clare and Limerick hit them for 3-26 each. Waterford 2-25. Now Offaly with 3-19. They’re tallies that would win most games and did in the case of Clare and Waterford, while they got out of jail against Limerick.

It’s easy to say that Dublin are poor based on their Leinster final performance and, hands up, earlier in the season I thought they were myself. But their performance against Kilkenny in Parnell Park and then Galway suggests that they’re much better than that. We know Clare follow their men one-to-one so the mantra for me would be very simple - get the ball in early and often. Sometimes, and I’ve been guilty of this myself, we want the perfect ball but when you have three inside forwards that are strong in the air, just put it in on top of them if you can’t put it in front of them. They could potentially cause carnage.
