Transport Minister Shane Ross calls Sinn Fein TD Imelda Munster a 'donkey' in the Dail
The insult was fired at a female TD, Sinn Fein’s Imelda Munster, who represents County Louth. He said that instead, she was “like a donkey in the last race at the last fence”.
Independent Alliance Minister Mr Ross was jeered by the opposition after the remark, which was made during a Dail debate on whether special Green Cards for insurance will be required for Republic of Ireland drivers to drive in the North - and vice versa. He said: “When you came in here last night...
“You came in as you normally do and you’re like a donkey in the last race at the last fence, you upset the whole apple cart.” Members of the Dail then rose up telling Mr Ross to cop on, with the Ceann Comhairle warning him not to use “unparliamentary language like that”.Earlier in the day Mr Ross was accused in the Dail of being “asleep at the wheel” in his transport ministerial brief by Ms Munster’s party colleague, Pearse Doherty. Our Irish Mirror Sports Page - which brings you all your Irish and UK sports news - can be found here.
