Sharks start strong, but lose to Oilers on overtime goal

Zach Hyman scored at the 1:37 mark of overtime as the Edmonton Oilers beat the San Jose Sharks 5-4 at Rogers Place on Thursday.

“It seemed like every time we got a lead, we squandered it,” Sharks coach Bob Boughner said. “Three-on-three’s a dangerous game to play with that team.”“There’s an illegal change in overtime once again that went ,” Boughner said. “They had four guys on the ice, literally, about 15 seconds before they scored. Both benched were warned of that going into overtime, that they’re going to be watching the changes and, of course, it had happened.

Kaapo Kahkonen is expected to start Friday when the Sharks finish the regular season in Seattle against the Kraken. “He played so many games in a row there and he wanted the net,” Couture said. “Lot of confidence when he’s in there. He’s got a lot of confidence in his own game, he walks around with a little bit of quiet confidence. When your goaltender has that confidence, the rest of the team feeds off him, so he’s had a spectacular year for us.”

Instead, the puck went off the skate of Oilers defenseman Evan Bouchard before it slid past goalie Mikko Koskinen at the 3:08 mark of the first for a 2-0 Sharks lead.
