The Tipperary native has secured herself a place in the Paris Olympics this Summer.
Sharlene Mawdsley has qualified for the Paris Olympic Games in the 400m event after clocking a time of 50.72 at the Memoriał Janusza Kusocińskiego meeting in Chorzow, Poland.
The Tipperary native won her heat and crossed the line comfortably under the Olympic qualifying benchmark of 50.95 to book her place in this Summer's Games. The 25-year-old took a staggering 0.37 seconds off the personal best time that she set last September and now holds the second fastest 400m in Irish history behind Rhasidat Adeleke.Mawdsley has been in the form of her life since the turn of the year and has been a part of the Irish relay teams that finished fifth in the European Championships in March, and third at the World relays just two weeks ago.
In those World relays, Mawdsley went toe to toe with reigning World Champion Femke Bol as the Irish team set a new National record in the Barbados heat. Taking to social media after the race, Mawdsley reacted to the news that she would be representing Ireland at the Olympics, which begin in July.
