Pearl Slattery on Shels' hunger, Kate Mooney on how heartbreak fuelled Ciaran Kilduff
Pearl Slattery says that Shels' astonishing blitz of Athlone was all down to hunger - while Kate Mooney was overjoyed to score twice on her Cup final debut after previous heartbreak.
"What a performance, to be 6-0 up, we are looking at each other after the fourth going, 'what's going on here', but you'll take it," beamed skipper Slattery, after lifting the trophy. The 25-year-old scored twice in her debut final - as did Noelle Murray, who was playing in her 11th. Mooney joined Shels as a 12-year-old but, after this dream final, recalled being was told 10 minutes before the 2016 decider against Wexford that she wouldn't be involved.
Later, Town boss Ciaran Kilduff revealed that a niggly injury that forced her to sit out this third final in a row between the teams.
