Specialist support is available
People affected by the 'trauma' of the Nottingham attacks that left three people dead are being urged to call a special helpline to access support. Caroline Henry, Nottinghamshire's Police and Crime Commissioner , says people do not need to have been directly affected by the events of Tuesday to be in need of help following them.
"The families and those directly affected by the incident are receiving specialist support from Nottinghamshire Police, but this incident has sent shockwaves through Nottingham, and there is a wider ripple effect to this that will be felt for a long time. Trauma affects us all differently and this is a proper, trauma-informed specialist service and I think, right now, it's such a difficult time for people in Nottingham.
"We need to look after ourselves and each other... and this service is there to just give people a quiet place to share their experience without judgement." Katherine Fuentes Dominguez, Head of Service at Nottinghamshire Victim CARE, said: "We are aware that traumatic experiences can affect people in different ways.
"It is important to know that it is not unusual to feel anxious after a traumatic event, even if you have not directly witnessed it. We are here to listen to your concerns and provide a quiet place to listen to your experience without judgment and explore your feelings and experiences. We often reassure people that their reactions are ok."
