Shoddy defensive play threatens to derail the Commanders’ season. _RyanFowler_ on what's wrong for Washington and why it's a BIG problem that must be solved. TakeCommand | HTTC
One of the many things that went wrong for Washington on Sunday, the effort to wrangle down Swift here on THIRD AND FIFTEEN
is flat-out inexcusable. Not only was it a time in the ballgame where the Commanders were down seven and looking to force a field goal, but allowing it to happen on such a long down and distance with Swift ending up on his backside for a split second only to get up and score, is, well, disgustingly bad football. If Washington is unable to fix its woes defensively, it’s going to be an ugly campaign once again in the nation’s capital.
For a group over the last few seasons that has been looked upon as one of football’s most intimidating in the preseason, turning on the tape when it matters showcases otherwise. And in fact, it isn’t close. It doesn’t matter how many first-round talents you have, the program they competed for, or the name on the back of their jersey, the Commanders have a laundry list of questions I’m not sure they’re going to be able to answer in a full 17-game slate.
While the finger of blame has been pointed early on toward defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio—who I’ll get to later—my focus turns to the secondary and a group of defenders that entered 2022 with a muddied projection into who they’ll become in the regular season. Ask Christian Kirk and Amon-Ra St. Brown what they think… 15 catches, 233 yards, and two touchdowns combined between the two prove my point in Washington’s first two matchups.
This all brings me to Del Rio, a figure that has made waves for all the wrong reasons this fall. His failure to evolve or tailor his scheme has been an annual question in D.C. Soft zone on third and long, limited aggressiveness due to a lack of coverage prowess on the perimeter, it’s not difficult to prepare for the Commanders on a whiteboard—just ask St.

Fantasy Football Week 3: QB rankingsWhat's up with Joe Burrow? The young star quarterback has amassed just 19.4 total fantasy points through two games this season, behind the likes of Joe Flacco, Jared Goff and Tua Tagovailoa. Of course, crazy things always happen in the early going; Flacco won't outscore Burrow all season. But it's hard to ignore that Burrow — who made the Super Bowl last season and finished as the eighth-highest scoring fantasy QB — hasn't been his usual self so far this year.
