An incredibly sad story

A serial shoplifter had quiet the spree when he stole panini sandwiches, meat, cheese and Tiramisu. Drug addict Lee Boylan's personal circumstances were described as "absolutely dire" by his lawyer Rob Keeble as he addressed his client's offending this year.

Boylan, 45, stole confectionery and clothing from a branch of Poundland; two panini sandwiches from Starbucks, helped himself to cheese and meat and a £2.50 Tiramisu from Co-op in Mansfield Road, Nottingham, coffee from Sainsbury's and three large packs of cheese from Tesco. Boyan pleaded guilty to all the charges of theft when he appeared before District Judge Grace Leong at Nottingham Magistrates' Court on Thursday, July 27. Mr Keeble said very sadly Boylan was at "rock bottom" and is rightly classed as vulnerable."He has been living on the streets and not in receipt of any benefits either. He funds his habit through acquisitive crime. He is addicted to crack cocaine, which is doing him no favours whatsoever.

Boylan takes a high dose of Methadone, and recently he told Mr Keeble he had started using other medication on top. Whilst Mr Keeble urged the judge to give Boylan a further opportunity, stressing there was nothing sophisticated about any of the shop thefts, the judge decided on prison. She activated four months from a suspended sentence he was on at the time and six months on each shop theft concurrently but consecutively to the four months. It means his sentence is ten months - and he is likely to serve five of those before release on licence and supervision. She further ordered he pay £111.30 compensation for the goods which were not recovered.
