Crowds of customers could be seen stood outside after the alarm sounded
Shoppers at the Quayside MediaCity outlet centre were evacuated on Monday afternoon after an alarm sounded.
Videos taken from outside the centre, formerly the Lowry Outlet Mall, show a crowd of customers and staff stood beside the doors after the fire alarm had gone off. It has since been confirmed that the evacuation was sparked following a 'false alarm' that had been triggered in one of the retail units and that all those inside were ushered out as part of protocols. One woman, @loubylou558, shared a live video on TikTok where she described people's confusion as she showed a large number of people standing outside the centre.
Staff and visitors were evacuated immediately before being allowed back inside a short time later once the incident was established to have been false alarm. A spokesperson for Quayside, said: “A false fire alarm was triggered in one of the retail units at Quayside shopping centre this afternoon. All colleagues, traders, and visitors were evacuated effectively as per our protocols and then safely allowed back in once the fire alarm was established to be false.”
