Shops run out of bread as Storm Freya brings heavy snow to parts of Ireland
, with some more snow expected on higher ground this evening.
But several shoppers took to Twitter on Sunday as their local stores began to run out of bread, similar to when Storm Emma hit this time last year. One user joked; "and so The Great Bread Shortage of 2019 begins," while another added: "People are rushing to get there bread in just because of the snow." Met Eireann is expecting another cold day today with heavy thunderstorms set to hit nationwide.A spokesman for the national forecaster said: "Cold with snow lying in places at first today.
"Showers mainly of rain and hail today but showers merging to longer spells of rain at times, some heavy with the risk of thunder. Any sleet or snow showers mainly restricted to high ground.They added: "Breezy tonight with further showers mainly in Connacht, Ulster and north Leinster, where they may merge to give some longer spells of rain at times and possibly wintry on higher ground.
"Showers will be well scattered in more southern counties. Becoming windy in the west and northwest with strong and gusty southwest winds with Gales along exposed coasts. Overnight lows of 1 to 4 degrees Celsius with some frost in places."
