The Colorado Rockies have a new shortstop: by psaundersdp

The Rockies, looking for a steady shortstop to replace all-star Trevor Story, have agreed to a one-year, $5 million deal with veteran José Iglesias, a major league source confirmed Saturday.

Additionally, Colorado agreed to a minor-league deal with journeyman outfielder Scott Schebler. He received an invite to big league camp, and if the 31-year-old makes the team, he could make $950,000.Iglesias, 32, a Gold Glove finalist in 2016, will try to fill the giant void left by Story’s departure. Story, a free agent, left the Rockies after the 2021 season. He’s still searching for his next team. Iglesias is a solid fielder but he can’t match Story at the plate.

Colome’ was 4-4 with 4.15 ERA and 17 saves with Minnesota last season. Over nine big-league seasons, he’s pitched in 393 games, compiling a 3.11 ERA. He was an all-star with Tampa Bay in 2016, posting a 1.91 ERA and 37 saves. He led the American League with 47 saves while pitching for the Rays. The right-hander has evolved into a groundball pitcher, which could play well at Coors Field. He posted a 53.4% groundball rate over the last two seasons.
