It's making its way across the globe
Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever in humans is a disease caused by CCHF virus .
Sporadic cases and/or outbreaks of the disease have been reported in several regions of Asia and Africa, while in Europe reports have so far been restricted to the Balkan region, Spain, Russia and Turkey. Currently, there is no specific antiviral drug for CCHF treatment or approved vaccine available.
As the illness progresses, large areas of severe bruising and severe nosebleeds can be seen, beginning on about the fourth day of illness and lasting for about two weeks. In documented outbreaks of CCHF, fatality rates in hospitalised patients have ranged from 9% to as high as 50%.
