Energy experts at Grant Store urge Brits to turn off appliances that could be silently draining their wallets before going on holiday.
Household appliances "Many household appliances continue to draw power even when they appear to be off. This includes devices in sleep or standby modes that use energy for updates, connecting to remote servers, and recording data. The only way to make sure no energy is being used is to turn them off at the plug or unplug them completely.
"Appliances that heat water, like dishwashers, washing machines, and kettles, are particularly energy-intensive. Even on standby, they consume significant amounts of energy because they need to be ready to heat water instantly. “While they account for around 12% of a household's energy bill, turning them off could cause defrosting and lead to unpleasant odours in the kitchen.
