The Cork politician confirmed that he is stepping back from politics and won’t be up for re-election as he instead focuses on a career away from public life and with his family

The Fine Gael politician announced that he is stepping back and won’t be up for re-election.

He shared how his choice of career impacted his family life, saying: “There are unfortunately many cases of politicians who have lost their families and their relationships because politics has come first. I have worked incredibly hard to make sure that it hasn’t happened to me. “I don’t think their mother would allow them,” he said. “I’ve got three daughters and I’m very proud of all three of them. They’re all amazing people even though they’re very young. They’re entering their teenage years.

“I’ve done everything I can, using technology from Zoom calls to FaceTime to try to spend as much time talking and being a father to them as I can. In a letter, he said: “I’m writing to all members of Fine Gael in Cork South Central today, with courtesy and respect, to address any question about my future in politics.
